Like father, like son… I too am a ranger in Virunga. I have worked my way up to being a ranger of the Advance Force. Much of my work has been in the Mikeno sector, home to most of Virunga’s mountain gorillas.
It was in Mikeno that I learned how to behave around mountain gorillas. I have always been fascinated by them and continue to be impressed by their peaceful and gentle nature. Like humans, gorillas appreciate calmness and respect of their personal space. I have learned to love gorillas and would give my life to protect them. Being a ranger isn’t easy at the moment, but we are back on patrol and continue to remove snares and track and arrest the poachers who set them. I am very happy to be part of the incredible team of people who protect the forest. I hope our hard work will secure a better future for Virunga National Park.
